Case study: Rainbow and Drake

Rainbow And Drake On The BeachChristmas 2013 came early for twelve year old Rainbow from Litherland who welcomed a new member to his family in the form of seven year old Labrador cross golden retriever, Drake the buddy dog.

Rainbow, who has no useful vision as a result of Glaucoma, is only able to perceive light and was accepted to receive one of these very special dogs in the lead up to Christmas 2013.

Rainbow’s Nan, Lynn says: "Immediately, Drake just knew that he was here for Rainbow. They have bonded so well together, it is lovely to see. Rainbow is doing everything himself to look after and care for Drake, this is hopefully excellent preparation for Rainbow to one day become a guide dog owner”.

"Rainbow loves going to the beach with his buddy dog, where the pair can run around safely and spend quality time together. Rainbow enjoys climbing, playing football and has recently had a go at motor car racing!

Rainbow and Drake listen to audio books at home whilst lying together on the floor having a cuddle. They’ve even been on national television a few times, appearing on Blue Peter and the Jeremy Kyle Christmas Special as part of Text Santa."
